When you are in your 20s or early 30s there are several important investments you can make to build an amazing life for yourself in the future. And not all of these investments are financial. In fact, there are several other areas in life that are equally, if not more important, that you should invest your time in when you’re young.
Educating yourself should be high on everyone’s agenda regardless of their age. However, the more you educate yourself when you are young, the more successful you will be as you grow older. And when I say education, I don’t necessarily mean going to the best school and university, and spending 7yrs+ getting a PhD. I mean reading the right books (on business, health, wealth, spirituality, etc), attending seminars or talks by inspiring and influential people, getting mentors for the areas in life you want to excel at and engaging in further education to boost your career. I believe that “the more you learn, the more you earn”… so educate yourself as much as you can.
A Powerful Network
While the popular saying ‘you are who you now’ is not necessarily true, there is undoubtedly a strong positive correlation between having a powerful network of friends and being successful in business (and life in general).
Choosing the people you spend your time with is important. Make sure the people you surround yourself with are smart, driven and successful and not unambitious people who just want to get by and get drunk on weekends. We are all influenced by our peers (positively and negatively) more than we like to admit. Use that influence to your favor and create a strong network of driven like-minded people, who will boost you to become better.
Health & Well-Being
If you are driven and focussed on building your career or business and maintaining a good relationship with your ‘better half’, then it is easy to forget to take good care of your body and mind. However, your health is extremely important because when disease strikes you, everything else has little value in life. Exercising, eating healthy and minimizing stress should be high up on your agenda. Creating a good routine of regular exercise that you enjoy and an eating regiment that is conducive to a healthy life should be key in your 20s and 30s as that will determine how well you will be as you grow old.
Once you have children and settle down it will become a lot more difficult to travel and have adventures in foreign lands. Hence, traveling while you are young should be high on your agenda. Meeting people from different cultures and experiencing all of the worlds’ beauty is an eye-opening and wonderful experience that will enrich you as a person.
Developing Good Habits
Developing good habits when you are young will be a blessing further down the road in your life. Incorporating regular exercise in your weekly routine, developing a healthy attitude towards dating, love and the opposite sex and developing good personality traits such as kindness, compassion, and generosity as all habits that you will greatly benefit from as you grow older in life. Also, working on getting rid of your bad habits, whatever they may be, will be easier when you are young and not so set in your ways.
Similarly to developing a strong powerful network to help you in business and life, it is also important to build strong friendships with people you can rely on and that can rely on you. At the end of the day, the most joy in life we get is from the time we spend with friends and family. Hence, building strong friendships that last a lifetime will bring you great joy and fun experiences throughout your entire life.
